November 23, 2009 Welcome Home Young Family! SUCCESS STORY
Last December, single mother Laverne Young began her partnership with Habitat Cabarrus, seeking a new home and community for herself, her four children, and one grandchild. Eleven months and around 300 sweat equity hours later, Lavernes home is complete with the help of many dedicated volunteers. Construction began in Magnolia Crossing Circle in the beginning of September 2009 and was dedicated Sunday November 15, 2009 at 2:30 in the afternoon. Thanks to funding from Softwood Lumber, this is Habitat Cabarrus 119th home.
Officiating the ceremony was Pastor Bill Godair of Cornerstone Church of Salisbury, leading those in attendance in prayer. He was joined by fellow Cornerstone Pastor Anthony Hall and Pastor Angela Powell of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant. Therese Roberts had the honor of presenting Laverne with the key to her beautiful new home. Therese works in Human Resources at Target, whose employees helped to frame the house. Her involvement with this home comes full circle as a member of the Family Selection Committee, helping to make Lavernes dreams come true from selection to dedication.
Building a house takes a great deal of time and energy and Lavernes home would not have been possible without the help of many wonderful volunteer groups including Target, Owens-Corning, BP Barber, RCCC Mister, UNCC APO, Great Wolf Lodge, Harrisburg UMC, Mount Olive, Mount Pleasant High School, Saint James Catholic, and Partner Families. The home was made possible by funds from Softwood Lumber.
